Mindful Eating

We stopped off at Sidecar Doughnuts in Costa Mesa on our way down to San Diego and I picked up two gluten free doughnuts. We actually stopped by the pop-up Sidecar truck in Torrance first but the line was crazy long so the rest of the family decided to go to a corner donut shop.

Fortunately, I’m gluten free which stops me from eating donuts regularly from the corner donut shop.

For whatever reason, I was particularly excited when I got my Huckleberry doughnut from Sidecar today.

Once I got my beautiful box with my two doughnuts inside the car, I started digging into my doughnut and before I knew it, I had eaten the whole thing.

A second after the last bite, I had some remorse and wished that I had eaten it slower.

The last time I got Sidecar which was actually 2 days ago in Del Mar on my son’s actual birthday. He chose Sidecar for his birthday breakfast and we sat down and ate our doughnuts together in the shop.

In contrast to today, that day I cut my doughnut into little pieces with my fork and slowly ate it while I chatted with my son about his birthday. Consequently, I was able to enjoy little pieces of that doughnut all throughout that day.

I realized today that I really prefer eating in a slow mindful fashion than an excitedly hurried manner. It’s not always easy to remember to do this but I would like to try…
